How do I order Fat Quarters of fabric ?
A fat quarter is a square of quilt fabric approx. 50cm by 55cm in size. Fat Quarters are available for some fabrics only. We have focused on having a wide range of quality quilt fabric for you to order by the metre or part of a metre. Providing fat quarters of most of our quilt fabric for sale is a future project.
If you specifically need fat quarters for your project, please email or contact us with your requirements and so can make an ‘offline’ order for you. Note: we don’t cut fat quarters of all our fabric, some fabrics are only practical to sell by the metre or centimetre.
How is patchwork & quilting fabric measured & cut ?
Quilting fabric is approx. 106cm to 112cm (42 inches to 44 inches) wide, not including the selvedge edge, unless stated otherwise. Actual width depends on the manufacturer, the and the actual printed design.

How are fabric panels measured ?
Quilt Panels are printed on fabric approx. 106cm to 112cm (42 inches to 44 inches) wide, not including the selvedge edge. Most panels are 60cm or 90cm (24” or 36” approx.) with the design area being slightly smaller e.g. 56cm (22”) wide x 110cm (43”) high.
The printed design area is sometimes less than 112cm, the approx. printed panel size is stated on each panel e.g. 85cm by 108cm (33 ½” by 42 ½”). Actual width depends on the manufacturer, the and the actual printed design.
What is a ‘wide-back” fabric ?
A wide-back fabric is 2.8 metres (280cm or 110 inches) wide including the selvedge edges. Wide-back fabric allows you to back a quilt in one length without piecing a narrower fabric together.
A large quilt is usually no more than 100 inches wide (2.54 metres or 254cm). A 2.8metre / 110inch wide backing fabric is easier to lay out for pining or basting and allows for 4 to 5 inches around the outside of your quilt for holding on to when quilting, and to allow for some fabric shift.
