Knitting Button & Button-hole Bands at Same Time as left & right fronts

Knitting Button & Button-hole Bands at Same Time as left & right fronts

      Hi Knit Sew Quilt knitters,

Have you wondered how to make sewing-on of the button & button-hole bands easier?

Why not avoid the sewing altogether and knit these at same time as you knit the left & right fronts. AND… No more trying to match the length of the bands to the fronts and guessing if you need to knit more or less!

Added advantage is when you have a lovely coloured ombre yarn the bands match the fronts perfectly. Check out our photos below – on the left is from Countrywide pattern P310 – 8ply child’s hoodie with bands knitted separately and sewn on afterwards.

The image on the right is our sample with bands knitted at same time as fronts, great time-saver for me too because I sew-up all our knitted samples in store.

P.S. I also no longer put girls’ buttonholes and boys’ buttonholes on opposite sides, because this is a hangover from when buttons were first invented and is no longer relevant.

For babies & toddlers garments you could make all buttonholes on the right front, making it easier for mum or dad to button up.
For children’s and adult’s garments you could make all buttonholes on the left front, making it easier for the wearer to button up.

If you have a topic you want covered or a tip of your own to share, please contact me.
Happy knitting.
